Adding a new e-mail address to Outlook Express

Finding your account details

Before you can begin the configuration process you must locate your e-mail address and password. If you can remember both of these you can proceed to the next section.

Finding your e-mail details on your Yes PC

If your computer came from Yes Computers pre-configured with an internet connection you should be able to locate your e-mail details within the text document on your desktop. The document is usually named "Internet Details" or "YesIT Connection Details". This is created by the engineer when your computer is built and contains all of the details required to access your internet connection and e-mail. If you cannot locate this file don't worry - see the section below "Finding your e-mail password by contacting us".

Once you have located the file, double-click on it to open it in notepad. You should see a screen similar to the following:

The information you need to make a note of is highlighed in blue in the above picture. Your details may be different to those listed above, make a note of them on a piece of paper, you will need them later.

When you are sure you have the details you need, close Notepad and move on to the next section.

Finding your e-mail password by contacting us

If you cannot find your e-mail details on your PC - either because the information has been deleted or lost, or if the PC in question is not a Yes PC - it is possible to retrieve your e-mail password by contacting us. In some cases we will not be able to retrieve your password but will be able to re-set it for you.

Contact us during office hours on the following number:

+44 (1384) 370 990

You will need to know the name part (the part before the @) of your e-mail address and should be prepared to provide at least 1 piece of security information such as your post-code, contact number or date you purchased your PC or Internet Connection.

Once you have retrieved your password, proceed to the next section.

Setting up your account in Outlook Express

Once you have your e-mail details. Start Outlook Express and follow the instructions below.
  1. On the menu bar, click on Tools then Accounts, as shown.

  2. You will be presented with the "Internet Accounts" dialog, click on the Mail tab at the top.

  3. To begin creating your new account, click on Add and choose Mail... from the flyout menu.

  4. The "Internet Connection Wizard" appears and will prompt you for the information it needs to configure your new internet connection. Enter your name in the space provided, this will be displayed on messages you send, enter your company name or anything you wish to be displayed to recipients. When you are satisfied, click Next >.

  5. Next you will be prompted to enter your e-mail address. This is the e-mail address you wish to be displayed to people you send to. Enter your e-mail address and click Next >

  6. The next screen requires you to enter your e-mail servers. These are the servers which e-mail will be sent and recieved through. Leave the "My incoming mail server is a" set as POP3.

Under "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:", enter mail.yescomputers.co.uk

"Outgoing mail server" is dependent on your internet connection. If you connect to the internet using our service, or are unsure of what your internet connection is, use smtp.yescomputers.co.uk as shown below.

If you use another ISP for your internet connection (such as AOL, Freeserve, Tiscali or British Telecom) you must use their outgoing mail server to send mail. Some common ISPs are shown below, along with the corresponding setting for "Outgoing Server".

    Internet Provider Outgoing Mail Server
    FreeServe smtp.freeserve.co.uk
    BT Internet mail.btinternet.com
    mail.btclick.com
    Tiscali smtp.tiscali.co.uk
    AOL smtp.aol.com
    Blueyonder smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

When you have entered both e-mail server addresses, click Next > to continue.

  7. All YesIT e-mail accounts now support using your e-mail address as the account login, instead of the old-style ABC123 logins. This means you no longer have to rememeber a separate login name.

In the "Account name:" box, enter your full e-mail address, including the @yescomputers.co.uk or @yesit.co.uk part.

In the "Password:" box, enter your password. Type your password carefully, it will show up as stars or blobs.

When you have entered your account name and password, click Next >.

  8. The next screen is just the end of the wizard... click Finish if you are happy with all the information, or click Back if you want to change anything.

  9. After completing the wizard, the new account should appear in the "Mail accounts" list.

If you want to assign the account a friendly name (this is very useful if you have multiple e-mail accounts) continue to the next section, otherwise press Close. Your e-mail account is now configured for use.

Giving your account a friendly name

  1. In the "Mail Accounts" list, highlight the e-mail account you have just created by clicking it once. Click the Properties button. The properties window for the e-mail account is displayed.

Type in a friendly name, such as "John's E-mail" or "Smith Family E-mail", and click OK to accept the changes.

  2. Click Close to close the "Internet Accounts" dialog.
